Many go missing, preferring a life in the shadows to one in bondage in breaking their contracts to join the black market. They account for nearly half of all missing foreign workers. Taiwan is the second-largest employer of Vietnamese overseas workers behind Japan. In addition, Vietnamese migrant brides form one of the largest non-Chinese immigrant groups inhabiting Taiwan. Most of them marry Taiwanese men in hope of a better life in a more developed country.
