CLAY STOVE
Châu Đốc, Vietnam, 2014 - Leica M7, Super-Elmar 21, Kodak Tri-X * Terracotta clay charcoal stoves are used in traditional cooking. Clay is mixed and stuffed with water and divided into small parts. The outer cover of the stove is made from galvanized zinc sheets to prevent clay from sticking on the mould. After finishing the first mould, artisans will design the stove shape, and attach handles and other parts. The stoves will then be dried under the sun for 24 to 48 hours and after that put into a big charcoal oven. In the cities these small ovens using charcoal are becoming rare and replaced with those using gas or electricity.
